Heathrow Villages

A public briefing

A third runway at Heathrow has been proposed, voted, paused, revived. This .org is not the campaign inbox.

Heathrow Villages briefing

Stop Heathrow Expansion (SHE) is a residents-led group founded in 2014. Its live site is stopheathrowexpansion.co.uk. The three aims published there are: no more runways and no flights beyond the present cap; less air and noise pollution from the airport and its roads; and an end to the repeated threat to village life north of the field. This hostname, stopheathrowexpansion.org, does not answer. The pages below are a public briefing on the same dispute — villages, dates, and the competing official case — not a substitute mailing list.

Residents north of the airport organised earlier as NoTRAG (No Third Runway Action Group) from 2002. That round of plans was dropped in 2010. The Airports Commission under Sir Howard Davies recommended a north-west runway in July 2015; the government endorsed it on 25 October 2016; the Airports National Policy Statement was designated on 26 June 2018 after a Commons vote. Friends of the Earth won at the Court of Appeal in February 2020; the Supreme Court restored the policy that December. Heathrow paused Planning Inspectorate work in 2020 and later resumed. In January 2025 the Chancellor backed airport expansion. A draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement went to consultation in 2026. On 3 September 2026 the BBC reported the Mayor of London and TfL opposing the draft, citing net-zero, surface-access costs they put at £9bn, and a cut in noise-respite time. Heathrow’s own pages call expansion privately financed and the UK’s only hub at capacity.

Houses and names

SHE’s history page repeats the Davies Commission figure of at least 783 homes. Longford would go; little of Harmondsworth would remain on that map. Sipson has been in the same sentence since the 2000s protests. HACAN speaks for people under the flight paths. The No Third Runway Coalition (2017) tied local groups together. AirportWatch, CrowdJustice appeals and lamp-post signs in Hillingdon are part of the same file. None of those groups asked this .org to collect their addresses.

What this desk will not do

It will not host a petition, sell a T-shirt or speak for Hillingdon, the Mayor, or Heathrow Airport Limited. Write to SHE at the .co.uk address they print. Correct a year if a Whitehall paper has moved.
